Whether you are applying for a job, training or further education course, the chances are you will have to attend an interview. Be prepared and organised! You have to show the interviewer you are the best.
Before you go...
- Find out about the company or college and make sure you know
how to get there.
- Make sure your clothes are neat, tidy and smart.
- Take your Record of Achievement (Progress File) or anything
else that might be relevant.
- Think about the questions you may be asked and how you will
answer them. For example: ‘Why are you applying for this job?’,
‘What personal qualities can you bring to this job?’
- Think of questions you may want to ask. For example: ‘What
training will I receive?’, ‘What are the prospects for promotion?’
At the interview.....
- Be on time!
- Relax and be yourself
- Be polite and friendly, but not too casual
- Give yourself time to think before answering
- Answer questions as fully and honestly as you can
After the interview...
Thank the interviewer for seeing you. If you are successful, the
company or college will contact you.
If you are not successful, try not to be disheartened. There may be a lot of
people applying for the same position. Use the experience, contact the interviewer
and ask for some feedback – what you learn from this can help you improve
your interview skills.
Tests
You may be expected to take an ability test as part of the selection
process.
If you think there will be a test, find out as much as possible before you attend.
If you need help with any aspects of looking for work
