Jobs

  • Apply for vacancies advertised in local papers
  • Ask family/friends to let you know about vacancies
  • Apply for employed status Apprenticeship opportunities as these offer jobs with training

Apprenticeships

  • Get as much information as you can about all the available training options
  • Apply for as many places as you are interested in
  • Check if you need to find your own placement. Some Apprenticeship providers need you to find an employer before they can set you on

The Sheffield College

  • Contact college for information about courses you are interested in
  • Complete college application form – available in school, from college or from the Connexions Centre
  • Apply for more than one course – have a back up to your first choice
  • To apply for courses out of Sheffield contact the college(s) direct

School Sixth Forms

  • Contact sixth forms for a prospectus
  • Check if you need to complete an application form
  • Make an appointment with the head of sixth form to discuss your choice of courses

Sixth Form College

  • Prospectus and application forms available in school or from the College
  • If you are a pupil at Chaucer, Ecclesfield, Firth Park, Fir Vale, Hinde House, Parkwood or Yewlands school you should hand the form in at your school
  • If you attend another school or have left school send the completed form to the College See here.
WHEN?

Jobs and Apprenticeships

  • Apply from November onwards
  • Check the careers noticeboard in
    school for vacancies - especially from January to May
  • Visit the Connexions Service after you have left school, vacancies are on display in the Connexions Centre
  • Before leaving school write letters to employers to ask
  • about vacancies. You can use Yellow Pages/Internet to find out more about local employers
  • The Connexions website has information about jobs and training opportunities - check out the Opportunities pages.
  • More and more companies put details of vacancies on their websites - look out for "Careers" or "Opportunities" pages

College/Sixth Forms

  • Apply early – from September onwards. Many courses, such as childcare and motor vehicle, are very popular and fill up quickly
  • Attend open evenings See here.
