Y11 OPTIONS - LEARNING IN EMPLOYMENT & TRAINING

*
*

Learning doesn’t have to take place in a school or college it can happen in a shop, factory or sports centre, for example. It is likely to be a mix of on-the-job training with learning at a college or training centre, working towards vocational qualifications and developing your key skills.

This could be a good choice for you if you want to:

  • Learn and get qualifications while you are working
  • Start earning a wage

The main types of work Year 11 leavers went into in 2002.

So, which is the right job for you? Think about:

  • Your skills, interests and abilities
  • Different types of work and what they involve
  • The qualifications and/or experience needed for the job you want
  • The training involved and the qualifications you could gain
  • The employment prospects for this type of work in the local area

Remember

  • Don’t just opt for employment and training because you are fed up with school, make sure it’s a positive choice and will fit in with your career plans
  • Getting the job or training place you want may not be easy, especially if the type of work you would like is very popular
  • Virtually all jobs and training places are open to both boys and girls
  • So, if you want to do something a bit different, or if it’s not what people expect of you, don’t be put off

It’s your choice - so if you have researched your ideas and taken advice –
go for it!
