WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?

You could..

Whatever you choose after Year 11, make sure it involves some kind of learning or training. If you do, you are more likely to:

  • find a job – and stay in work
  • have better job prospects
  • earn more money in the future

You may come across people who have done well without ever getting any qualifications. But nowadays the world of work changes so quickly that, if you don’t keep on learning, you can get left behind.

Your main options

There’s more than one way of staying in learning. You can choose:

College or sixth form

For general education, a work related course or a mix of both.

Work based learning

Learn while you’re in the workplace.

Employment

But make sure it includes training.

Guarantee for all Year 11 students of a place in learning

Once you have left Year 11 you are guaranteed an offer of a place in learning. This could be in a college or sixth form or with an employer or work based learning provider. This offer should be appropriate to the type of learning or work you are interested in, and at a level appropriate to your needs. Further information will be available from your school and your Connexions Personal Adviser

Which is best for you?

Everyone is different so look at all the options before you choose and think about how you learn best.

For example, is it through:

• Reading and studying?

• Hands-on experience?

• A mixture of these?

Connexions Personal Advisers can help you to think about what you want and guide you in the right direction. They can also help you to tackle any barriers that may be preventing you from doing what you want to do.
