WHO CAN HELP?

*
*

You will be the person who makes the decisions, but there are lots of people to help you.

*
  • Parents/carers, family and friends
  • Teachers and Youth Workers
  • Your  Connexions Personal Adviser

Making Connexions

Connexions is a service for young people aged 13-19. You will find Personal Advisers from Connexions in your school, college or local community. They can help you:

  • Plan your next step after school or college
  • Develop as a person through activities such as sport, voluntary work and lots more
  • Make the most of your abilities and overcome any difficulties that might be getting in your way
  • With any issues concerning health, housing, money or lifestyle

Your Personal Adviser can listen, advise, give information or put you in touch with other people who can help.

The kind of help you will need in Year 11 can vary. Some of you may already know what you want to do next, while others may not be sure. Personal Advisers therefore offer different types of support. For example, some young people have a one-to-one meeting (or ‘careers interview’), others may meet their Personal Adviser in a group.

Your parents/carers should get a letter, outlining what support you can expect. If you disagree with what is being offered, please tell us!

In Sheffield, The Connexions Service is run by Sheffield Futures and is part of an Integrated Youth Support Service. This means that Personal Advisers work with other services that support young people, e.g. Youth Workers, Teachers and Health Professionals.  The idea is that all the different people who can help you work together.

You will also get the chance to say what you think about Connexions and how it can best meet your needs.

You can also call the local Connexions freephone helpline for information and advice. Call: 0800 652 9900 or e-mail: enquiries@sheffieldfutures.org.uk

Or call into your local Connexions Centre.
