Only men will suffer from this one and is best described as the swelling of the urethra (the tube which carries urine from the bladder to the end of the penis). Some men will notice a discharge at the end of the penis and pain, irritation or discomfort when peeing.
It is commonly caused by Chlamydia, which can take as long as months and even years to show up. It can also be caused by vigorous sexual activity, squeezing the penis or could simply be caused by a reaction to a partner who has a small infection (such as a water infection) or a water/bladder infection.
Antibiotics are effective in clearing any infection of this type and the urethra can take up to a month to heal after treatment. It is advised that sexual contact is avoided during this period or until regular partners have been screened and treated.
