Family Doctor
Family doctors should be able to give advice on the best forms of contraception to use. If they can't provide it for you they should be able to tell you the nearest place to get contraception from
Confidentiality
The biggest fear for some people is their family finding out. It is always best to discuss confidentiality with your doctor before talking about anything.
Parents and Carers
It can sometimes be difficult to talk to family members about all things sexual. You never know how they react. It is your choice exactly what and when you tell them about your sex life or sexuality if you want to tell them at all.
Youth Clinic
The Youth Clinic offer free confidential advice on sexual health, sexuality, contraception and relationship choice. The clinic also offers emergency contraception as well as free condoms for anyone aged 20 and under. The services is a drop in so no appointment is needed. Genital Urinary Medicine - GU Med
Offers information, advice, screening and free treatment for STIs as well as counselling / support for people wishing to test for HIV. Same day HIV testing is also available as well as counselling / information. An appointment is needed. To make one call 0114 276 6928

Copies of their confidentiality policy are on display in the waiting rooms. Information and advice received is kept confidential but if you have any worries about how confidential the service is ask a member of staff.

Teachers can help you talk through sexual health issues and will be able to support you through an agency referral (Going to see someone else)
Confidentiality
This can differ between schools and teachers. Always ask before talking about anything as some schools / teachers are obliged to inform parents / carers with certain issues such as pregnancy.
Youth Workers
Youth workers can generally support young people in getting to agencies such as youth clinic or GU Medicine and depending on the youth club, may be able to issue free contraception as well as information / advice.
Confidentiality
This can differ depending on the youth club / worker. Some youth workers may need to speak to other agencies / staff to get further information. It is always best to check out confidentiality before having any conversations about sex / sexual health.
Phone lines
Some phone lines can offer specific sexual health information and most offer support when thinking of relationship / choices / sex. Phone lines can often be easier than talking face to face and it can help just to tell someone what you are going through even if you don't want information / advice.
Confidentiality
Most phone lines are completely confidential, as you don't even need to give you name or any other details. If you are worried about phone numbers appearing on phone bills then you may want to use a phone box to make the call.
Some phone lines are recorded for the safety of the person on the other end of the phone.
